USS Bowfin & Pacific Aviation Museum

On Memorial Day, all active duty military and their dependents got in the Pearl Harbor attractions for free. We had already toured the Arizona Memorial and USS Missouri, so it was off to see the USS Bowfin (Submarine) and the Pacific Aviation Museum!!!! Both of them were on our to do list before we left the island.
From the Bowfin's deck, we had a perfect view of the Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri Battleship nestled along Ford Island.
The USS Bowfin is a World War II submarine that was commissioned in May 1943. It patrolled the Pacific Ocean for the duration of the war, sinking dozens of Japanese ships.

The torpedo tubes.

The kid's aren't even full grown adults, so you can imagine how small this hall is.

Officers mess.

Commander's room.

Our daughter was whining, so Jason made her hold his hand into the museum.

My favorite land mark on the whole island!!!! The architecture of the building almost makes you hear Frank Sinatra music in your head.

B-52 Bomber like the kind used in the Doolittle Raid on Tokoyo.

Japanese Zero

I wanted to show what it looked like on our drive home to the Marine Corps Base from Honolulu. We are driving on the H3 heading East just getting ready to go through the tunnels to the Windward side of the island.

Coming out of the tunnels to the Eastern side of the island.

The view of Kaneohe Bay and the Pacific Ocean in the background.

The closest mass of buildings is the town of Kaneohe. The hills in the background on the other side of the bay in the Marine Corps Base. Kaneohe Airstation was the first place hit during the bombing of Oahu by Japan. There's still a grave marker where a Japanese plane was shot down.

The windward cliffs.

The Marine Corps Base ahead of us. It's very dry right now. Usually everything is green.
